Karachi Silver win bridge team tournament

KARACHI: Karachi Silver became the champions in the maiden weekend team tournament organised by the newly elected management of the Karachi Bridge Associates (KBA) here at the Aslam Hall, housed in the National Stadium.

According to the results made available to ‘The News’ by the KBA, a total of eight teams entered the tournament.

Karachi Silver, comprising the mother and son pair of Rubina Saeed Hai and Zia Hai besides Abdul Kader Bhurgri and Mohammad Zubair, won the tournament by accumulating 49.58 Victory Points (VPs).

Starting off with a victory over Pak Ladies (10.71), they defeated Sami (15.79) and GFQ (14.46) to move to the top position which they succeeded in retaining despite losing the last round match to Masood (8.62).

Sami, featuring Commander Akhtar Kamal Sami, Syed Ameer Hasan, Mushahid Hasan Siddiqui and Zafar Zaki, ended as the runners-up with their tally of 49.43 VPs.

Sami came back strongly after losing in the opening round against Karachi Silver (18.14). They prevailed over their rivals in the next three rounds: Masood (15.31), Farhat (11.70) and Rafiq (18.14).

Farhat, having the services of Anwer Kizilbash, Tanvir Mazahir, Tariq Zafar, Shahab Khan, Anis-ur-Rehman and Khalid Mohiuddin, won and lost two matches each to claim third position with an aggregate of 49.31 VPs.

GFQ, consisting of Azwerul Haque, Ghaffar Qureishi, Nuri Pasha and Syed Abdul Hameed, came fourth with a total of 47.29 VPs.
