This refers to the news story ‘Aviation policy with tax-free investment on the anvil’ (January 14). There is no justification in outsourcing our major airports as the CAA is earning huge profits from them. Why should we deprive ourselves of income in the name of investment? Instead, we should reduce airport taxes and improve services. There is no doubt that privatisation, deregulation and liberalisation will reduce to some extent the issue of patronage enjoyed by the state but there is no wisdom in throwing away our strategic assets to foreigners.
The new aviation policy revolves around creating more high-profile jobs for some without any rationale. Since the creation of the aviation division, instead of any improvement the situation has worsened as PIA continues to nose dive. The prime minister needs to look into the process and examine carefully the new aviation policy before it proves to be a disaster in the long run.
