Hi, brides to be! It is time to start planning your 2017 wedding. We thought we would kick off the year with the 2017 wedding trends everyone will love!
Here are a few of our favourites for each element of the big day! They are all chic, sophisticated, fresh and completely fabulous!
Glowing radiance: Today, bridal makeup trends are soft and romantic to complement the bridal dresses and bridal hair. No longer do the lips have to be lined heavily and matte foundation with loose powder applied. While this is traditional, today’s bridal makeup is more radiant and natural. Girls will shy away from bold eyeliner, contouring, and heavy foundation, and lean towards a more natural, dewy look. Makeup artists will be sticking with camera-friendly gold and earthy toned eye shadows, subtle highlighting, and natural pinks for the lips and cheeks. Many women today are gravitating towards the “less is more” aesthetic.
Braided beauty: Braids are all the rage for stunning hairstyles. Gone are the days of hard-as-nails updos, and instead the wispy romance of braids can be found in French, fishtail and crown styles interwoven with flower buds or crystals. Simpler braids with hearts or swirls are popular for flower girls as well, and every bridesmaid can try her own braided style.
Opting for an up-do? Let some strands hang loose for an effortlessly elegant style. Soft, feminine hair with texture and a perfectly undone feeling will rule hair trends.
The bridal trousseau: This year, everything is new from colours to trends. Brides are finally going back to the traditional colours of reds, deep purple, rusts, and maroon, pinks, creams, and golds. The most popular bridal wears are lehengas, heavily embellished kurta sets and saris; corsets teamed with fitted lehengas and jazzed up with swarovskis and sequins. Silk thread embroidery with lots of crystal work, fitted and tapered ghaghras are increasingly becoming popular along with tapered trumpet shararas. Then, there is the wrap- around lehenga with metal work, metal leaves, caviar beads and marquise crystals, and crystal dust and crystal tassels for the sparkle. The gold rush: If marriage is a fairy-tale, jewellery adds wings to this fantasy. The latest trend in gold jewellery is floral and bold designs, inspired by the glamorous 1970s. Conventional designs have made a huge comeback. The antique ‘temple’ jewellery look of the dancer or courtesan resplendent with gold embellishments inspired by Bollywood’s latest blockbuster, the luxurious period saga ‘Devdas’, is one of the hot new trends in gold jewellery.

Trends come and go, but your wedding photos will last forever. Thankfully, the 2017 wedding trends predicted by top planners are not only gorgeous, but they’re also timeless. From lush greenery and bold colour combos to exciting entertainment and fashion-forward styles, these trends, which we have compiled lovingly, guarantee 2017 will bring some of the prettiest weddings yet!
- Garden weddings: Since they announced this as the pantone color of the year, it’s no doubt that the trend of lots of lush greenery, table garlands and boxwood walls will continue well into 2017. The challenge will be thinking up new, creative ways to use greenery! Garden wedding in 2017 also tends to have a strong sense of green floral that will successfully add more elegance and nature to your big day.
- Go green: What’s the biggest wedding floral trend for the year 2017? I’ll say no floral at all. Instead, we’ll see simple arrangements of leaves, branches or palms, inserting lots of greenery with minimalist vibes. For a more dramatic effect, consider incorporating a canopy of greenery that hangs high above guests’ heads.
- Lunch receptions: Every year, more and more lunch receptions are occurring in big cities like Karachi and it seems like one of the coolest emerging wedding trend. Attending a lunch reception is a great way to spend your Sunday afternoon.
- Unique locations: No more shaadi halls, couples now want to get married in style - in chic urban lofts, and classy cafes/ restaurants. Moreover, any place with a large plot of land or a distinct building - or both - will allow couples to really personalize their wedding.
- Attention to tablescapes: Many couples are starting to turn their attention to the dinner table as the main focal point of the reception. We’ll continue to see long banquet tables as opposed to the traditional round table setup. Many couples want to really cater to their guests and give them a great experience, which to them means not waiting in a line for food.
- Custom menus: Rather than basic menus with a few standard choices, couples are opting for more showcase menus that may highlight local specialties or their own favourite dishes. Signature cocktails are still popular, but additional options such as personalized coffee blends are also becoming more widespread
- Textured paper goods: Wedding invitation styles often mimic what’s happening in fashion and home decor. For 2017 that means mixing two patterns, like stripes and florals, on the backs of cards or on envelope liners, as well as textured paper. Brides have been looking to steer clear from flat, matte paper goods and are falling more in love with deckled edges and felt or cotton textures, and even metallics.
- Light up the night: Lighting can really make or break the ambiance of your celebration (far more than flowers or linens), which is why intimate lighting options such as candelabras, delicate string lights, tons of tea lights, and luminaries will serve as main lighting sources. Dim, romantic, and dramatic are key themes for this trend.
- Intimate guest lists: Gone are the days of weddings with hundreds of guests that the bride and groom barely know. Today’s weddings are all about intimacy, with fewer guests but more time the couple can spend with their closest friends and family members. Personalizing the wedding with details about the bride and groom, photos of their relationship, even trivia contests about the two of them - adds even more personalization.
- Drone photography: Drones offer couples unique wedding photography options in 2017, bringing a birds-eye view to the ceremony and reception. These stunning photos capture moments of the wedding in beautiful ways, and can also be used for fun group wedding shots not just of the bridal party, but of all the guests together. Despite all the hottest wedding trends of 2017, at the end of the day, it is your wedding, so do whatever you like - whether it is a new fad or a centuriesold custom!
