This refers to the letter, ‘Road to Chiniot’ (Dec 6), by P S Ahmad. The writer has highlighted a lot of problems faced by commuters when travelling through the Pindi Bhattian-Chiniot road. In addition to all the problems mentioned in the letter, there are a few more which need to be dealt with at the earliest. There is a dire need to look into the matter of the traffic safety on the road.
A lot of bus drivers drive recklessly. Since they have been driving along the motorway, they don’t mind over speeding on the road. This puts the lives of other commuters in danger. If a passenger tries to warn them, they’d speed up in retaliation. Is it mandatory to get involved in an accident first and then take precautionary measures? The Punjab government is requested to not only repair the road, but ensure the strict implementation of the traffic rules for the public safety. Warning should be issued to those drivers and transport owners who don’t obey the law.
