Unsafe city

Travelling in Lahore has always been safe and secure. But, the recent incident of armed robbery has created a wave of fear among the citizens of the city. What is more surprising is the fact that two armed men conveniently committed street robbery in ‘broad day light’. The street police force is responsible for maintaining peace in the city, but where were the police when two armed men were robbing valuables from a family present in a car?

This has scared me to a great extent. Now, I am more cautious while driving alone. The question is: Why street crimes are increasing day-by-day? Who will safeguard daily commuters? The chief minister is requested to take serious against street crimes.

The recent surge in snatching incidents in Lahore sheds lights on the worsening law and order situation in the city and calls the performance of the provincial police department into question. Although the Punjab government has provided resources of billion of rupees to increase the efficiency of the police department, much more needs to be done.

Since it is the responsibility of the provincial police department to safeguard the lives and properties of citizens therefore, all-out efforts should be made to initiate crackdown on criminal elements and to ensure an atmosphere of peace.
