ISLAMABAD: PTI Chairman Imran Khan on Tuesday said he went to the UK to meet his children and not to collect evidence in the Panama case. He said the sudden jumping in of a Qatari prince with a letter had created so many questions and the biggest was that there was no mention of a Qatari link during prime minister’s three speeches.
Talking to media persons upon his return from London, where he spent time with his two sons, Imran appeared relaxed. He claimed they had gathered many proofs and the PTI lawyers would decide how to present them in the Supreme Court. Veteran lawyer Naeem Bokhari will head the four-member team. He said that the sudden emergence of the Qatari letter also proved that they (Nawaz Sharif and family) had never thought of ever appearing before the Supreme Court.
Imran said he had won many matches with weak teams, when asked was not he having a weak team to pursue the Panama case in the Supreme Court. He added they had formed the four-member legal team after thorough discussions.
Replying to questions, the PTI chairman was sure that with just one question, the legs of the Qatari prince would start trembling. Imran said he had not gone to London to collect more evidence. The PTI chairman said his focus at present was on the case in the Supreme Court and asked for prayer, when questioned about his intention of wedding for the third time. “Ap dua karen, shadi sunnat-e-Rasool hay,” he remarked.
Imran said after the prime minister presented in court a letter by the Qatari prince, in which he claimed that the London properties were proceeds of their real estate businesses, the case had become more controversial and prime minister’s position questionable.
“In his addresses to the nation and the speech in the NA, there was no mention of this Qatari prince. Now where did he jump in from,” the PTI chief asked. “The situation of do or die is for the nation because it was not my money that was stolen but people’s wealth. That’s why I am fighting,” he said, when asked was not it a matter of do or die for the PTI.
Imran contended that the nation’s money, supposed to be spent on infrastructure, education and health, was stolen by the rulers. About the case filed by PML-N’s Hanif Abbasi, Imran said Naeem Bokhari would appear before the court with regards to the case filed by what he called Ephedrine Abbasi.
INP adds: Babar Awan is the new entry in the PTI’s legal team led by Naeem Bukhari and comprising Sikandar Mohmind and Malika Bukhari. Talking to the media here at Bani Gala, Imran Khan said Hamid Khan was a senior member of his team and his quitting from the case was regretful; however, he would meet with the new legal team members and will decide the future strategy for the next hearing.
NNI adds: Imran Khan said he hopes that the new army chief will be appointed on merit. Speaking to the media at London’s Heathrow Airport, Khan said the services of the outgoing Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif will always be remembered. “General Raheel Sharif spent a good tenure.” About the Panamagate case, Khan said the nation has pinned their hopes on SC. “Panamagate is high profile case for Pakistan.”He said the party hasn’t made its decision on who will replace Hamid Khan as the lawyer of the PTI in Panama Leaks case.
