‘Street-cricket’ is quite common not only on the streets of Karachi but across the country. Although a source of entertainment, young children play without any adult supervision which is troubling. At times, when children are ‘fielding’, they carelessly chase balls with no regards to oncoming speedy cars or bikes. This is why it is not advisable for children to play outdoor games on streets. However, at the same time, one cannot ignore the importance of playing outdoor games for the mental and physical growth of children. Child specialists agree that playing outdoor games contributes towards the well-being of children.

Now, the question arises: where should these children go to play games? There is hardly any playing ground in the remote localities of Karachi. The existing playgrounds are either completely barren or turned into parks, which are being used by elderly people for jogging, walking, and other such activities. If children are playing on streets it is not only unsafe for them but the nearby residents also complain of broken window glass or car’s mirror. It is the responsibility of the local government to build proper playgrounds for young children. Where else will a child go to play outdoor games?
