Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (SKMCH&RC) organised a special event to observe International Breast Cancer Awareness Day on Tuesday in the hospital.
The event was part of “Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign” launched by the hospital to create awareness among the masses about breast cancer.
According to a press release issued here, Maya Ali, famous TV star and SKMCH&RC ambassador for the campaign and Sana Mir, captain of Pakistani women cricket team, were the special guests on the occasion.
Consultants, doctors, students and teachers from different woman educational institutions and people from different walks of life were also present.
Ayesha Sana hosted the well-attended event. Maya Ali and Sana Mir appreciated the doctors and management of SKMCH&RC for their efforts to create awareness about the disease.
Dr Neelam Siddique, consultant oncologist, discussed different methods of the treatment of breast cancer. She highlighted different researches related to breast cancer and its cure.
She said that it was important for every female at the age of 40 and above to visit doctor once a year for her mammography.
Dr Zulqarnain Chaudhry, consultant surgeon, SKMCH&RC, talked about the symptoms of breast cancer. He said that it was important for every woman to self-examine herself regularly and search for minor changes occurring in the body. He said they must share any sort of changes with doctor so timely diagnosis was done to prevent the disease from growing more complicated.
He said that early diagnosis and treatment was very important as it could give almost 100 percent results in breast cancer cure.
Consultant surgeon Dr Huma Majeed and Dr Amna Iqbal answered the questions of the audiences in a Q&A session. Dr Asif Loya, associate medical director, SKMCH&RC, also spoke on the occasion.
Health Agency: A delegation of Department for International Development, the UK headed by Project Director Jack Eldon called on Punjab Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Secretary Najam Ahmed Shah in his office on Tuesday.
The delegation included Farooq Azam, Dr Anwar Janjua and Dr Qamar Salman.
According to a handout issued here, the delegation discussed details with the secreary for establishment of the Punjab Public Health Agency (PPHA). They discussed different aspects of technical cooperation.
Najam Ahmed Shah said that PPHA was being established to evolve an efficient health system and provide visionary management to monitor performance of health service institutions.
The head of the delegation assured the department of providing a team of technical experts to assist it to work out the details of PPHA.
Najam Ahmed Shah thanked the delegation for offering technical assistance for setting up PPHA.
