War of economies

This refers to the article, ‘Limited guns and loaded rhetoric’ (Sep 30) by Ayaz Amir. The writer has rightly said that Narendra Modi or India is a lesser problem. However, the country’s foremost problem is not militant groups. The biggest challenge for the country is corruption, loot and plunder, absence of rule of law, injustice, and the deliberate downfall of the economy. These are causing increase in illiteracy, joblessness and economic deprivation that are signs of a failing state.

The above-mentioned factors are the root cause of militancy. Corruption provides a breeding ground for militancy, insurgency and proxy war. There is no institution in the country that can exercise control on corruption and expropriation of state resources. Modi is only provoking Pakistan because the country itself is going downhill. The government must know that a weak economy is a sure recipe for weaker defence and our neighbouring country is economically very strong.
