LAHORE: A clash between the workers of PML-N and PTI during local bodies election campaign on Monday led to firing which left one PTI worker dead along with four workers injured from the both parties.
The incident occurred near Nawaz Sharif hospital in the premises of Yakki Gate police station, walled city. It has been learnt that Yakki Gate falls in union council 32 and workers of PTI had established an election camp adjacent to Nawaz Sharif Hospital. At around 12:10 am workers of PML-N were passing by the said camp in connection with their election campaign, when hot words were exchanged between both the groups which led to a clash. As per Geo TV reports, one worker of the PTI lost his life in this clash and four workers of both the parties got severe injuries.
However, Yakki Gate police station SHO Muhammad Abid told The News that seven workers of both the political parties were injured due to the firing of one Malik Tariq alias Bhappa Malik, saying no one was killed in this incident. Moreover, the SHO was unable to reply a query why the incident of firing took place.
Meanwhile, Punjab chief minister has sought a reply from CCPO Lahore in this regarding along with directions to take immediate action against the culprits without any prejudice.
