ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has said military personnel cannot be deputed at each polling station for the local bodies elections.
Secretary ECP Babar Yaqoob said the Election Commission has asked the chief secretaries of Punjab and Sindh to present analytical reports on the requirement of military personnel in the local bodies elections. He said the report would be shared with the Pakistan Army. He said the ECP has also launched a video and mobile application for training of voters and election staff. He said the video had been uploaded on the website of the ECP.
Babar Yaqoob said the Election Commission has started investigations into the vote transfer from the NA-122, Lahore constituency. He said the ECP has sought reports from district and provincial election commissioners in this regard.
Babar Yaqoob said the PTI leader Chaudhry Sarwar was being provided all the details on his insistence. He said that allegations of alteration to voters’ lists were under investigation.The ECP secretary said that deficiencies in the electoral system will be phased out by providing relevant training. He said the training videos will not only be uploaded on the website but will also be sent to all political parties. He said voters will also be able to benefit from training videos.
Earlier, the PTI prepared a six-point ‘charge sheet’ against the ECP. The charge sheet has reportedly unearthed startling revelations according to which the PTI claims it and PML-N were given different electoral lists. —Sabah
