Rhyme ‘n’ reason
Alliteration is a literary device where words are used in quick succession and begin with letters belonging to the same sound group. Whether it is the consonant sound or a specific vowel group, the alliteration involves creating a repetition of similar sounds in the sentence. Alliterations are also created when the words all begin with the same letter. Alliterations are used to add character to the writing and often add an element of ‘fun’ to the piece.
Example: The Wicked Witch of the West went her own way.
An errand to live for
By Suhd Nazeer
With her loaded pouch strolled Spring
through country lanes and fields, fancying
the scenery of yesteryears while chewing
on basil mint which made her breath,
the wreath of garlands adorned her bronze hair
and her eyes kept all April to themselves.
She stopped by the pond to behold in it
multitudes of forms easy on the eye.
Sitting upon the grassland wearing white
cotton over-blouse now soggy, her brow
twinkled. She removed from her hair
the jasmine stale and tossed it down gently
And far she gazed into the empty space;
Into the cluster of aspens until mirthless
became every twig; until Autumn began to fiddle.
Mind your own business

I'm not right.
Neither are you.
Let’s pretend otherwise.
Shackled soul
By Shafi Rehman
My soul is shackled in chains
and I feel like a bird in an open cage
The tides of thoughts burn my rage
and I have no urge to stand in this rain.
The days are long and nights are short
and time is running round the clock
I can feel the scorching heat of summer
but I am aware that it’s not forever.
The blue sky and the shinning sun
I am disguising myself not to burn
For how long will I run?
I don't know when I will be done.
Deathbed
By Waheed Khizar
When in the last part of the night
He finds no stars
In the clumsy brown sky
He sighs...
Then
To console his mopish soul
To suppress his hidden longings
He secretly counts
His restless heartbeats…
And reluctantly thinks about you...
For there is your memory
In his every single sigh!
For there is your longing
In his every single night!
For there is your hope
In his every single heartbeat!
Know that, my dear…
For in his every single reason to live…
There lies your promise
To love him...
Forever!
Anyway
By Salman Ahmed Qureshir
The garden seemed green,
So looked the pathway,
I saw the nightingale,
But she turned her eyes away.
I didn’t think:
She meant to betray,
But a bouquet of worries,
The seed of fears lay.
She glided among the trees,
A flight that was meant to stay,
It amused me,
The trees, too, did sway.
O’ devil of fears and worries!
You certainly can’t betray,
Don’t cast doubts or fears,
I love my nightingale anyway!
