AJK president to attend meeting of OIC contact group on Kashmir

Will also address gathering of Kashmiris; meets PM Nawaz today

NEW YORK: Azad Kashmir President Sardar Masood Khan will attend an important meeting of the Contact Group on Kashmir established by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and address the gathering of Kashmiris living in the United States during the reception to be hosted by them this week since he is on his maiden visit of the United Nations as the President of Azad Kashmir.

Masood Khan, who earlier served here as Pakistan’s Permanent Representative in the United Nations for about four years, is widely respected and recognised in the corridors of the world body. He was received upon arrival by the distinguished Kashmiri leaders and diplomats warmly.

Masood Khan will be meeting Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today (Monday) and they are expected to discuss the situation with regard to the Kashmir dispute. Masood Khan had also served as a senior diplomat with Pakistan’s mission in the 90s as well. The OIC Contact Group on Kashmir will be chaired by OIC Secretary General Ayaz Madani of Saudi Arabia and it will be attended by foreign ministers of the member countries.

Adviser to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi, Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry will also attend the group huddle.

The group in its meeting will discuss the report about the Kashmir situation and deliberate about the horrible human rights situation in the Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK), the sources said.
