Weekly inflation rises 0.51 percent

ISLAMABAD: Inflation for the week ended September 15 for the combined income group witnessed an increase of 0.51 percent as compared to the previous week.

The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week under review in the abovementioned group was recorded at 219.69 points against 218.58 points registered in the previous week, according to the data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) here on Friday.

SPI for the combined group in the week under review also increased by 2.19 percent as compared to the corresponding week last year. The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2007-2008=100, covering 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.

Meanwhile, SPI for the lowest income group up to Rs8,000 also increased by 0.42 percent, as it went up from 210.35 points in the previous week to 211.24 points in the week under review.

SPI for the income groups from Rs8,001 to Rs12,000, Rs12,001 to Rs18,000, Rs18,001 to Rs35,000 and above Rs35,000 also increased by 0.46 percent, 0.50 percent, 0.53 percent and 0.53 percent, respectively as compared to the last week.

During the week under review, average prices of six items registered decline, while 13 items increased and 34 items prices remained unchanged. The items, which registered decrease in their prices during the week under review included onions, mash pulse, masoor pulse, moong pulse, gram pulse and wheat flour.

The items, which recorded increase in their average prices included chicken (farm), tomatoes, bananas, LPG cylinder, garlic, potatoes, eggs, rice (IRRI-6), Basmati (broken), vegetable ghee, gur, milk (powdered), and red chilly (powder).

The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included wheat, bread plain, beef, mutton, milk (fresh), curd, mustard oil, cooking oil (tin), vegetable ghee (tin), sugar, salt (powder), tea (packet), cooked beef, cooked daal, tea(prepared), cigarettes, long cloth, shirting, lawn printed, georgette, gents sandal, gents chappal, ladies sandal, electricity charges, gas charges, kerosene, firewood, electric bulb, washing soap, match box, petrol, diesel, telephone local call and bath soap, according to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
