The Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto University of Law (Szabul), Karachi, is the result of 12 years of strenuous efforts as it took over a decade to convince higher authorities of the need for an institution that would specialise in imparting education pertaining to the most important field of law.

This was stated by Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad while addressing participants at the fifth senate meeting of Szabul at the Governor House on Friday.

Governor Ebad was all praise for the varsity’s management and faculty’s role in developing Szabul’s credibility in a short span of three years. He said it was due to such dedicated efforts that the varsity was performing at par with international standards.

He encouraged the varsity officials’ efforts for collaboration with various British universities, stating that such moves were needed to provide more scholarships and other academic opportunities for our students.

Ebad thanked the university for naming its research centre after him and said he was hopeful the centre would boost our research standards.

Speaking later, Szabul VC Qazi Khalid Ali said that the research centre had been named after the governor for his services for promotion of higher education in the province. He also mentioned that various problems being faced by the university had been brought to the Sindh chief minister’s knowledge and early redressal of the issues was now expected.

To mark the opening of Szabul’s new academic session, a ceremony would be held on Saturday (today) with Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Anwer Zaheer Jamali as chief guest and would also be attended by SHC Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah and Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.

The ceremony would also mark the inauguration of the Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan Research Institute.
