APNS, CPNE condole death of Zahid Malik

KARACHI: Sarmad Ali, President, and Umer Mujib Shami, Secretary General, the All Pakistan Newspapers Society, on behalf of the office bearers and members of the society have expressed profound grief over the sad demise of veteran journalist and senior colleague, Zahid Malik, Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of the prestigious English newspaper Daily Pakistan Observer.

Zahid Malik retired as a Joint Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of Pakistan. Having done Master's in Mass Communications in 1960 and with the rich experience he gained in the civil service, he launched his own publication house in 1978. He was the author of a dozen books and over 2,000 articles and comments were to his credit.

Meanwhile, President Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE) Zia Shahid, Secretary General Ijaz-ul-Haq, Senior Vice-President Shaheen Qureshi, Vice-Presidents Amir Mahmood, Rahmat Ali Razi, Mahtab Khan, Syed Haroon Shah and Anwar Sajidi, Joint Secretary Irfan Athar, Finance Secretary Ghulam Nabi Chandio, Information Secretary Tahir Farooq and members of the Standing Committee, on behalf of all member editors of newspapers and journals expressed deep grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Senior Member CPNE and Chief Editor Daily Pakistan Observer Zahid Malik.

They prayed to Almighty Allah to grant peace to the departed soul and give courage to his sons Faisal Zahid Malik and Gauhar Zahid Malik and other family members to bear the great loss.

In his condolence message, President CPNE Zia Shahid said Zahid Malik had been rendering very valuable services for the freedom of the press. He was a great asset and a beacon of light for the CPNE. He said Zahid Milik’s demise had left a vacuum in the field of journalism that could not be filled.
