Lt Gen Muzammil likely to be new chief

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) Zafar Mehmood on Monday resigned from his post.

Officials stated on condition of anonymity that Lt Gen (retd) Muzammil Hussain was most likely to be the new Wapda chairman within days.The PM Secretariat sources said that Zafar Mahmood met the prime minister on August 16 and informed him about his decision to resign.

Zafar Mehmood, a bureaucrat of repute with a brilliant and spotless career, had served as secretary of important ministries including establishment, water and power, commerce, petroleum and natural resources. In his resignation letter he thanked PM Nawaz Sharif for appointing him as chairman Wapda and for extending cooperation to him.

While talking to The News Zafar Mehmood confirmed the development. However, he refrained from making any comments about his resignation. After calling it a day, Zafar Mehmood intends to spend his time in writing and reading. He plans to write a book on Kalabagh dam. He said that he has already entered into an agreement with Van Guard for publishing his book. Under the agreement, Van Guard will provide each time 40 books to Wapda free of cost out of every 500 publications of his book. He also said that he will write down a book on governance and politics with the help of Tariq Khosa who is known as an honest bureaucrat. “Some chapters in the book will be written by Tariq Khosa and some by me,” Zafar Mehood said.
