Christa Pike returns to prison after hospital discharge

Christa Pike, who was on death row and ordered to be executed by lethal injection but survived after a failed attempt, has been discharged from the hospital after spending days there, according to her attorneys.

Now, she has been transferred back to the women's prison – Deborah K. Johnson Rehabilitation Center – where she was incarcerated for three decades.

In a statement, Pike's legal team said, “She is grateful to the first responders and her medical team for their care in these extraordinary circumstances."

“She is continuing to receive medical care at the prison, and we will continue to track her recovery.”

Since Sept. 30, Pike, 50, had been hospitalised after she had an execution attempt in Tennessee for the conviction of beating and killing her classmate, Collen Slemmer, which failed.

Pentobarbital, a lethal-injection drug, was injected in two doses; however, she survived, making her the first person to have survived such an injection, according to the Death Penalty Information Center, a nonprofit that tracks capital punishment in the U.S.
