The reboot of Ghostbusters with an all-female cast, spearheaded by one Melissa McCarthy, was more than a fluke. As it turns out, another brilliant all-female project is in the pipeline, courtesy of one Steven Soderbergh.

The acclaimed producer and director, who is also the man behind the con-men caper series, Ocean’s Eleven, is producing a new film in the franchise with an all-female cast. Tentatively titled Ocean’s Eight, this confirmed spin-off film will feature Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling and Awkwafina, the alter-ego of Asian-American rapper Nora Lum. The casting bill has room for one more actress but there is no word on who that could be.

Gary Ross will direct the film and there are several rumours that suggest that actors from the Ocean series will be making cameo appearances in the film. Having collected over 1 billion dollars on the box office as a trilogy, the producers hope to imitate the success of its previous releases. The film meanwhile will be about a heist although this time, women will take center-stage.

In the original Ocean series, George Clooney and Brad Pitt are the main stars and Warner Bros studio want Bullock and Blanchett to take the lead while Rihanna is taking a detour from music to make room for acting as well. She’s also signed on to star in the new season of Bates Motel as a “psycho”, whatever that means.
