Former Duke of York Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has officially surrendered Royal Lodge to the Crown Estate more than 50 years early on his lease.

Royal expert Rebecca English has revealed that Andrew has fully vacated and paid £1.8m for dilapidations.

As per the terms of his lease he was entitled to compensation for early surrender of £302k.

The overall net amount received by The Crown Estate is £1.5m which is now ‘focussed on determining the potential future use of the property’

She tweeted, “This sum was informed and reviewed by independent advisors, according to the Crown Estate.

“The lease for Royal Lodge has ended and our focus now is firmly on its future use and the opportunities to generate additional financial value for the nation from its early return,” the Crown Estate said.

Last year, in an unprecedented statement Palace had announced that King Charles was stripping Andrew of all his titles and privileges.

"His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew. Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor," the statement issued on October 30 last year read.

"His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence. Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation. These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him," the statement continued.

Andrew has moved into Marsh Farm on the Sandringham Estate in April and before this the former prince was living in a nearby property until renovations were complete.
