Nobel Peace Prize winner and Venezuela's opposition leader Maria Corina Machado has called for new presidential elections to be organized by July 2027.

Machado emphasized that collaboration with Washington remains critical, noting a shared vision between the Venezuelan people and the United States to establish a lasting democratic framework.

During a Financial Times interview, Maria stressed that ample time remains to secure a democratic transition.

"The US government and the Venezuelan people all agree that the only way to make this sustainable and a real victory is to turn Venezuela into a stable democracy," said Machado, the winner of last year’s Nobel Peace Prize.

Her demand comes amid heightened political tension and ongoing international scrutiny regarding Venezuela's governance and economic stability.

Furthermore, she urged increased transparency surrounding revenues generated from the nation's oil sales, which are currently operating under strict U.S. oversight.

The proposal aims to pressure the ruling government and rally international support as opposition forces continue pushing for democratic reforms, credible electoral timelines, and accountable management of the country's vital petroleum wealth to benefit its citizens.
