Prince William, Kate Middleton celebrate the 2026 Earthshot Prize Finalists
Prince William and Kate Middleton have just spotlighted some of the best revolutionising waste management efforts done by people all around the world.
The entire thing has been shared as part of a series of images, each of which shows another aspect.
The first talks about South Korea Zero Waste Movement Network, the second mentions the Mother Earth Foundation, and the third is a movement from PFAS-Free France.
The post also contained a caption that reads, “Introducing the 2026 Earthshot Prize Finalists to Build a Waste-free World, who are revolutionising waste management and making outstanding efforts to live in a world without waste.”
Now for those unversed with the initiatives, the South Korea Zero Waste Movement Network “is driving an environmental and economic revolution that should inspire us all,” according to the official post.
That too by “using simple technology, public education, and smart policy, South Korea now recycles 95% of its food waste, up from just 2% in the mid-90s. This movement offers a practical and moral lesson for the world. We currently waste around a third of all food produced globally, filling our landfills with methane producing waste, while people still go hungry.”
The second, the Mother Earth Foundation “places informal workers at the centre of the challenge to remove single-use plastic in the vast archipelago of the Philippines,” according to the second video in the carousal. Also, “by paying workers fairly, it stops waste before it reaches dumps, rivers, or beaches. In one city, this has kept almost 90% of household waste out of landfill. This is a transformative model, in a country with an outsized opportunity to prevent plastics reaching our seas.”
Thirdly, PFAS-Free France is a movement “built a national, cross-party movement to ban toxic ‘forever chemicals’ in consumer products, and to make polluters pay for the clean-up.”
according to the caption, “by tackling an issue of growing public concern around the world, France has shown we can make our products better, our environment cleaner and protect the health of generations to come.”
