Anne Hathaway gets candid about ‘craziest’ pregnancy symptom

Anne Hathaway has developed "the craziest sense of smell" during her pregnancy.

The Verity star is currently expecting her third child with her husband Adam Shulman and she's revealed her pregnancy hormones have made her nose extra sensitive and she's convinced she's now able to "smell time."

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Anne explained, "You know, my main symptom during my first pregnancy was fatigue, and that didn't happen this time.”

"This time, my main symptom was, well, acne. But I had, like, the craziest sense of smell ... The thing about pregnancy smell is you smell time,” she added.

Anne went on to explain she's able to pick up so many smells it's like going back in time, declaring she recently went "back to the 80s" via one particularly pungent whiff.

"You don't just smell this summer. You smell all of them. A couple [of] other summers. I went back to the 80s,” she explained.

"Yeah, wow. You went back in time. There were many strikes there. No, and so, you know, on a press tour, it's amazing. It's like this Goodfellas experience,” The Devil Wears Prada actress said.

Anne then proceeded to say, "You're going in and out of, like, hotels and the back ways, but you pass so many garbage bins, and you go through so many kitchens, and then you go into elevators, and you smell every single room service order."

The actress also revealed her struggle to cope with strongly scented perfumes and colognes as the fragrance made her feel ill. "The perfume was really intense. Because people I love, they come to [greet me] and I'm like [retching]."

Anne went on to joke, "So first trimester, my goal was to not, like, dry heave in public. And now third trimester, my goal is to not waddle in public. So, I feel like that's a good thing."

It comes after Anne admitted she's been on "an amazing journey" in 2026 as she released a number of high-profile movies including Mother Mary, The Devil Wears Prada 2, The Odyssey, The End of Oak Street, and Verity, as well as expanding her family.
