Google’s Sundar Pichai responds after Trump calls him ‘monster’

President Donald Trump hosted top tech executives on Tuesday to discuss artificial intelligence. But in this summit, Trump changed artificial intelligence to “super intelligence.”

While speaking to the reports after the meeting, Trump introduced Google CEO Sundar Pichai in quite an unusual way, giving him a rather backhanded compliment.

Turning toward Sundar Pichai, Trump gestures as if inviting him to address the room. But just as Pichai steps up to begin, a sudden wave of the hand cuts him short.

"This guy is a monster, and nobody even knows him," Trump remarks, “What a life! To be a total monster and completely avoid all of this. All you need to know is—Sundar! Sundar is his name."

At Trump’s humorous introduction, Pichai appeared to be laughing and quipped, “Hopefully a better tagline than I am a monster!”

This meeting was attended by Anthropic’s Dario Amodei, Elon Musk, OpenAI president Greg Brockman, Nvidia Jensen Huang and Mark Zuckerberg.

During this meeting, the tech executive signed a “morally binding document” that would serve as a form of protection against AI’s risks. Under this agreement, these tech giants would police themselves while ensuring the safety of their own technology.

Taking to X, Pichai responded, “Great to meet today with President Trump, JD Vance, Speaker Johnson and tech leaders.”

“As I shared today, Google has invested hundreds of billions in the last two years alone, with more to come, across the entire stack, to deliver benefits for America and the world.”

“Industry also has to innovate responsibly. Google’s focused on building the right way, with appropriate testing, evaluations, red-teaming, and other safeguards against misuse and misalignment – and releasing models or products only after they’ve been thoroughly reviewed.”

He added, “We are committed to working with other industry leaders to establish norms and build public confidence.”
