Outlook’s new feature blocks outgoing emails with spelling errors and lets users review fixes first
That sinking feeling of spotting a typo the second after clicking send is about to get a lot rarer for Outlook users. Microsoft has made it official that there is a new feature of pre-send spell check that stops any email that looks like it has questionable spellings from being sent out.
The update was explained in a blog entry titled "Spell check before sending emails in new Outlook" by Microsoft 365 Message Center.
As described by Microsoft itself, the user can now configure Outlook to spell check before an email is sent, making the process of proofreading unnecessary each time.
Although the exact details of how it works have not been explained by Microsoft yet, the initial data shows that the checker starts its work right when the email is being sent and prevents the email from being sent in case of potential errors.
Anyone who has read an email thrice and still noticed an apparent typo right after sending it will understand the purpose of this software feature.
Detecting typographical errors is much more difficult without the pressure of pressing "send", and having a program that does this just before pressing the button is an easy way to fill a gap in manual checking.
Microsoft is expected to launch this feature during the period of mid-October to the end of October, targeting users all over the world. It will then have a worldwide release date between mid-November and early December.
