Joe jonas recalls 'terrifying' fall that made him want to call his kids: 'It sounds like the bougiest problem'

A wave, a slippery step, and suddenly Joe Jonas was in the water, wedged between two boats off the coast of Italy.

The 37-year-old singer recounted the frightening moment on The Morgan Stewart Show podcast, describing a recent getaway to Portofino with girlfriend Tatiana Gabriela and friends that took an unexpected turn.

During the trip, the group had chartered a yacht and stopped at a waterside restaurant that required guests to transfer using the venue's own boat.

As Jonas prepared to step across in rough waters, a wave pushed the smaller boat away just as he made his move, causing him to fall into the water between the two vessels. The crew member helping him also "fell in."

“It sounds like the bougiest problem, but it was terrifying,” he recalled on the September 22 episode of the show.

Jonas explained that he was fully dressed, with his phone still in his pocket, and had to think quickly about how to safely get out of the water without getting too close to the yacht's engines—something he feared could have happened if he swam toward the yacht's ladder.

After a couple of failed attempts, he eventually managed to climb back onto the boat on his own.

Though he brushed off concern from onlookers in the moment, Jonas admitted the fear caught up with him later.

“In those moments, you’re just like, your adrenaline is going so fast, and of course, all your faces are like in shock. You’re like, ‘Oh my god, is he, is he okay?’ ” Jonas says of his fellow passengers. “Which I was like, ‘No, I’m fine.’”

He added, “I finally came down from the anxiety and I looked at Tati and I was like, ‘That s*** was really scary.’ Like that really spooked me for a while. It was really intense.”

He also shared that his first instinct once the adrenaline wore off was to call his daughters, Willa and Delphine, whom he shares with ex-wife Sophie Turner.

“I was like, ‘I just need to call them. I need to see them. I need to see their faces.’ Because you realise it could have been any of us. It could have been really bad. It was the best outcome of a bad situation.”
