Reports of screen lines look mostly faked, but Face ID problems appear more consistent
You'd expect some hiccups after any major iPhone launch, but the reports circulating about the iPhone 18 Pro series fall into two very different categories.
Just over a week after the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max went on sale on September 18, posts online began claiming the new phones show green and pink lines on their displays, alongside separate, more consistent complaints about Face ID.
A post on X shows two videos of what appears to be a burgundy iPhone 18 Pro: one with a pink vertical line running top to bottom, another with a thick green line along the left edge.
A closer look at the green line image reveals it running behind the Wi-Fi icon, something that doesn't happen with genuine display defects, and a detail Reddit users flagged almost immediately.
The line is also noticeably thinner than typical hardware-related green lines. The pink line video, by contrast, shows no such inconsistencies and appears to be a legitimate original clip.
In spite of all the hype around it, there is only one truly convincing video available at the moment, and there is no information on how this particular device had been treated prior to the appearance of the line.
Apart from all the fuss about the display, several users of the iPhone 18 Pro have reported troubles with Face ID. They say that the feature suddenly stops working, with the phone freezing and restarting with the lock screen.
Some other users report trouble configuring Face ID ("Face ID Not Available") and issues with the Require Attention feature not working properly. The reason for the malfunction is still unknown, but the most probable solution would be provided by Apple.
Phone releases often generate over-hyped stories, and that might just be the case here too; that's what we saw with the Galaxy S26 release, where people were spreading stories that were overblown.
Apple has now told 9to5Mac that it is aware of the problem and will release a fix from September 28th.
