Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes approved for halfway house move next year

Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes has been approved to move to a halfway house in Texas next year as she continues serving her sentence for defrauding investors, according to ABC News.

Holmes is scheduled to move to the Austin Transitional Center in Del Valle, Texas, in August 2027, ABC News reported, citing an update from the US Department of Justice’s Victim Notification System.

The 42-year-old is currently serving her sentence at Federal Prison Camp Bryan, a minimum-security facility in Texas.

Holmes was sentenced in 2022 to more than 11 years in prison after being convicted of conspiracy and wire fraud charges linked to her company, Theranos. She began serving her sentence in May 2023.

Her sentence was reduced earlier this year from 135 months to 123 months after a federal judge found she qualified for a retroactive sentencing-guidelines reduction.

Halfway houses, also known as residential reentry centres, provide supervised accommodation and support for people approaching release from federal custody.

Holmes has also previously asked US President Donald Trump for clemency.
