Trump administration eyes major change to Ford’s Theatre name: Here’s why

Trump administration aides are reportedly investigating the possibility of adding President Donald Trump’s name to Ford’s Theatre in Washington-marking a significant move to bring changes to the heritage landmark and trigger civic controversy.

One key aspect that has surfaced among administration officials has raised eyebrows: Ford’s Theater, the playhouse where Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in 1865. The theatre’s viability remains in question as does the administration that would attach Trump’s name to it.

The prospect ignited a wave of debate over the past week among people responsible for the historic site. The idea surfaced as aides list federal properties for prospective naming rights amid a push to rename the Kennedy Center after Trump as well.

On social platform X, divided views have been shared by users with one writing, “Literally every other president ever: makes their own legacy/ has a building made in their name. He puts his name on an already existing building or legacy that has nothing to do with him, then looks for another one to do the same.”

Second said, “ Trump sat in the still blood stained seat of our former 16th president and now insists his name is to be added to the museum placard and that it's quite an honor for everybody else.”

Third added, “ He literally is trying to rename the site when the greatest republican president died a martyr just so he can attach his name to Lincoln’s legacy.”

Online reactions mix irony over the tragedy’s location with criticism of self-promotion, and a former official said advisers float these to please the presidents with no major reason to reject them though any change to the site’s 1970 federal designation would likely require congressional approval.
