Brad Pitt gets candid about dealing with world full of war and hate

Given the current climate of the world, it was only expected that Brad Pitt ought to be asked how to deal with a world full of war, racism, and political division.

Though the question was philosophical, the U.S. actor replied in kind.

“I think we could spend more time on where we are the same. What binds us, what connects us, and I think we can listen better through these divisional lines," he added.

"But you know, maybe we just start taking care of the people that are around us and making sure they’re okay.”

His remarks come at the San Sebastián Film Festival, where he was alongside director David Ayer, who was promoting the upcoming movie Heart of the Beast.

In the film, the Academy Award-winning actor formed an emotional bond with a dog named Odin, a retired military combat dog.

Regarding that bond, Pitt said, “[The characters] James and Odin are both extremely capable creatures."

He continued, "They’ve been trained. They’ve been hardened. They’ve been proven."

"But it was more their bond between each other […] we would fight more for one another than we would even for ourselves, and that kind of care and love and loyalty kept them both points in our film, and I think that’s also true love."

"When I think of the darker days, certainly my close relationships – I relied heavily on friends, dear close friends, a handful of close family, and was very open about my growth," the actor said.

Pitt's The Heart of the Beast opens in theatres on Sept. 25.
