The company has been engaged in an extended category deep-dive for months and is now developing prototypes
According to a report from Bloomberg, Apple is reportedly working on a screenless fitness tracker similar to Whoop focusing on health and screen-free activity monitoring without a traditional display.
Primarily a flexible-webbed filament with a sensor-equipped commuting module. The project is endorsed by top Apple executives, including Eddy Cue and Tim Cook. Cue took charge of Apple’s health team last October after the departure of Jeff Williams. Meanwhile, products like Whoop strap and Oura Ring are popular among people who want passive wellness tracking.
According to a Reuters report, Oura is gearing for an IPO and recently revealed that it sold 3.6 million Oura Rings in one year ending June 30. It has been observed that revenue grew 74% to $1.21 billion for the nine months ending June 30.
Apple is still a valuable player in the smartwatch market, offering a broader spectrum of features including health and fitness focus wearables like Oura and Whoop.
The fabric bands’ energy-optimized aims for longer battery life and continuous biometric tracking though no launch is certain before 2028. Furthermore, this minimalist wearable initiative reflects a major shift toward distraction-free wearables amid competition from Garmin and others while Apple Watches keep selling strongly.
