Piers Morgan’s own book error exposed amid Earl Spencer legal threat

British journalist Piers Morgan said on Tuesday that Earl Spencer has apologized to him for "his defamatory lies published in his new book."

In a social media statement, Morgan said, "I am pursuing legal action against him and his publisher Penguin to have the lies removed, and damages paid to The King's Trust."

His statement came after Charles Spencer apologized to him for a factual inaccuracy in his book.

Spencer claimed Morgan was at the Mirror when it published photos of Princess Diana in the gym in 1993. Morgan was at the News of the World at the time and did not join Mirror Group until 1995.

Piers Morgan has openly sided with King Charles since it emerged that in the book titled "Swan Song: Diana, My Sister", Charles Spencer said the then Prince of Wales was "giddily elated" at her death.

Meanwhile, Morgan has faced backlash from unexpected allies of Charles Spencer, supporters of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

The journalist was called out for announcing legal action against Charles Spencer over a "factual inaccuracy" for which he has already apologized.

A clip of a GB News discussion on the row has been widely circulated on social media by Sussex supporters.

In the video, a journalist said in his book "The Insider" Piers Morgan incorrectly wrote about having tea with Tony and Cherie Blair at 10 Downing Street when John Major was still prime minister.

Morgan, a staunch critic of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, has been called "a hypocrite" for creating a spectacle over a "minor date error."
