Piers Morgan vows legal action against Earl Spencer over 'lies' in Diana book

Piers Morgan has announced that he is taking Earl Spencer and his publishers to court for what the commentator said were "demonstrable lies" in the new book Swan Song: Princess Diana.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, he wrote, "I am taking legal action against Earl Spencer and his publishers over demonstrable lies he has written about me in his new book, which call into question his credibility as a supposed ‘historian’.

His threat of legal action follows another tweet in which he lambasted Spencer, saying, "He says, having waited 30 years to launch a vengeful, resentful attack on King Charles.”

This caption was in a reply to an interview the author gave to CBS Sunday Morning.

There, he said, “I don’t hold resentments," adding, "I’m not a vengeful, resentful person. I’m just an eyewitness to history.”

In a separate interview with the BBC, Spencer appeared to have made a thinly veiled threat.

"If I were a salacious writer and wanted to write that sort of thing, I would have plenty of other things I could have said," he said, referring to King Charles.

In response to Spencer's claims, Buckingham Palace released a statement.

"While we do not comment on books as a matter of principle, His Majesty is mindful that the pain of fraternal grief can cloud reason, affect judgement and colour memory in ways others do not recognise, even many years after such a loss."
