Earl Spencer spills Princess Diana's private confession about her marriage to King Charles
Earl Charles Spencer claimed in his new book, Swan Song: Diana, that the late Princess Diana convinced him that Prince Charles, now the monarch, was "in love with his valet".
Earl’s soon-to-be-released personal new book’s preview has been shared with the Daily Mail, which revealed lady Diana’s some explosive claims.
He penned in the book that once Diana called him on a lunch to tell him she wanted to part ways from Charles because he had allegedly fallen for someone else.
Earl recalled, "I was silent for a moment. I had known things were bad, but not this bad.
"'Well, Duch' I carefully replied, 'you of course have my full support… I know you’ll have thought this through. But my main worry is the public. I fear they won’t forgive you. They’ve bought into a fairytale, and I reckon they may well – wrongly – blame you for destroying their fantasy.'
He continued, "She looked up at me, nodded, and said quietly: 'But, Carlos, my husband is in love with his valet.'
"I gulped. 'Well, I guess, in that case, you really don’t have a choice.' She did not name the member of staff, and I never asked her who it was, or why she would believe such an improbable thing. It was not important: the end of her marriage, and of her dreams, was."
It is important to note that Diana herself talked about Charles alleged infidelity in her 1995 BBC Panorama interview with Martin Bashir.
She said at the time, “Well, there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded."
In the same interview she also confessed to having an extra-marital affair with her riding instructor James Hewitt and former British Army officer.
After Earl Charles’ book’s preview unveiled, a statement was released on Wednesday by Buckingham Palace in favour of King Charles while also acknowledging Diana’s brother’s grief.
It read, "While we do not comment on books as a matter of principle, His Majesty is mindful that the pain of fraternal grief can cloud reason, affect judgement and colour memory in ways others do not recognise, even many years after such a loss."
