Kim Kardashian reveals health scare tied to father's death

Kim Kardashian is opening up about a recent health scare that hit especially close to home, given her father Robert Kardashian's death from esophageal cancer in 2003.

In the trailer for the upcoming eighth season of The Kardashians, Kim appears in a hospital bed, revealing she was diagnosed with esophagitis, an inflammation of the esophagus typically identified through an endoscopy.

In the clip, someone off-camera brings up the connection to her father's illness, which sparked an emotional reaction from her mother, Kris Jenner, who admits the topic still brings her to tears.

Robert Kardashian died in 2003 at age 59, just two months after his diagnosis. Since then, the family has worked to raise awareness around esophageal cancer, including helping establish the UCLA Robert G. Kardashian Center for Esophageal Health in 2019.

Robert and Kris were married from 1978 to 1991 and had four children together, including Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, and Rob.

This isn't the first health issue Kim has shared publicly. In 2025, she revealed she'd been diagnosed with a brain aneurysm discovered during a routine scan, which doctors attributed to stress following her divorce from Kanye West, with whom she shares North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm..

She explained that the aneurysm had likely been present for years, and doctors noted that stress could increase the risk of rupture.
