Lena Dunham and husband Luis Felber welcome baby via surrogate

Lena Dunham has welcomed her first child with husband Luis Felber, born via surrogate.

The 40-year-old actress and writer underwent a hysterectomy at age 31 after a long battle with endometriosis, which led her to consider surrogacy.

Dunham shared details of the experience in a personal essay for Vogue, revealing that her daughter arrived 13 days past her due date.

“The waiting was harder to accept. As the clock wound down, something that was once theoretical became urgent," she penned.

She described the final stretch of waiting as emotionally intense, writing about studying ultrasound images closely, trying to catch a glimpse of her daughter's personality before she was even born.

“I studied the ultrasound images like a ghost hunter, looking for any signs of who she might be, of what she might already know.

She wrote vividly about the moment of birth, describing herself sitting beside the surrogate, filled with both patience and an overwhelming sense of anticipation, before finally seeing her daughter's face for the first time.

Dunham is best known for creating and starring in HBO's Girls, which ran for six seasons beginning in 2012 and helped launch the careers of several cast members, including Adam Driver and Allison Williams. She later created the Netflix series Too Much, which drew loosely from her own love story with Felber, whom she married in 2021.
