'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' has surpassed 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'
Before Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Star Wars: The Force Awakens was the highest-grossing domestic movie ever.
Now surpassed by the Marvel film, Lucasfilm, the studio behind the sci-fi franchise, took a moment to congratulate the fourth Spidey film on its latest record.
Tapping in on a famous phrase from Star Wars, the company wrote, "Impressive." Most Impressive."
The studio continued, “From a galaxy far, far away, everyone at Lucasfilm sends massive congratulations to Destin, Tom, everyone at Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios and the entire team behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day on setting a new domestic box office record and taking the crown from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
Meanwhile, Spider-Man: The New Day broke the record with $936.773 million, becoming the top domestic box-office movie of all time.
Over the moon on the milestone, Sony Pictures shared a post, writing, “Doesn’t get bigger than this."
“Thank you to the fans for helping #SpiderManBrandNewDay make cinematic history—it's now the highest-grossing domestic release of ALL TIME at the North American box office. Spider-Man: Brand New Day, exclusively in theatres.”
