King Charles marks historic moment during Scotland visit

King Charles celebrated historic “Sister Parks” partnership in Scotland.

On Wednesday, September 16, the royal family’s official Instagram handle offered a glimpse of the monarch’s latest visit to Cairngorm National Park, Scotland. In the posted video clip, His Majesty can be seen interacting with the firefighters who worked to control the major wildfire that began there this July and lasted more than a month.

However, the caption stated, “Today at Cairngorms National Park, The King met, volunteers, firefighters and community leaders to express his gratitude for their response to this summer’s devastating Glenmore and Abernethy wildfires.”

“His Majesty heard firsthand accounts from the first responders who battled one of the area’s most significant recent environmental incidents.”

It further pointed out the new park partnership which links Scotland’s Cairngorms National Park with Virginia’s Shenandoah National Park.

“The visit also marked a historic moment for international conservation, celebrating the upcoming official twinning of the Cairngorms and the USA’s Shenandoah National Park. Reflecting on his speech to Congress earlier this year—where he noted that the mountains of Scotland and Appalachia were once part of a single, continuous range forged millennia ago—The King met with staff from both locations and local Junior Rangers to highlight this new “Sister Parks” partnership dedicated to protecting our shared natural heritage,” it concluded.
