Trump says AI fears are a ‘sick conspiracy’—Here’s what he means

President Donald Trump dismissed growing artificial intelligence concerns that are making rounds for the last week and called them a “sick conspiracy” waged by AI critics.

In a Truth Social Post, Trump wrote that “The only control or ‘guardrails’ that AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT, and the U.S.A. has that, in spades!”

In his post, Trump assured that the US has already put guardrails in place to regulate and prosecute AI companies. These AI fears are nothing more than a sick conspiracy while adding that only one player is going to take benefit from these concerns is China.

“We already have tremendous CRIMINAL and REGULATORY power over these companies! There is a SICK conspiracy going on against AI and Data Centers, and the only one that is happy about it is China,” he added.

Trump’s remarks regarding China come as both leaders are expected to meet in high-stakes Trump-Xi summit scheduled for September 24. It is also expected that AI safety and governance would be the part of discussion.

Moreover, According to US House Speaker Mike Johnson, Trump is slated to sit down with AI industry leaders very soon, either this week or early next week. They plan to discuss how these tech companies handle safety and whether the government should step in to regulate them.

According to Vice President JD Vance, he is skeptical of the AI industry leaders’ calls to regulate the sector. Even Trump on social media said the AI industry’s call for regulation is just a “hoax.”

The intense debate surrounding the formidable role of AI started with the dire warning from Anthropic researcher who decided to quit the industry. Jacob Coxon also warned that these tech companies are gambling with humans’ lives and acting irresponsibly.

Another Anthropic researcher also issued a chilling warning regarding AI-driven human extinction who claimed that AI could kill all humans within a decade.

On Monday, a former Google DeepMind researcher joined the growing chorus of AI experts warning that artificial intelligence could lead to human extinction, cautioning that we are rapidly running out of time to prevent it.

"I recently resigned from ​Google DeepMind, where I worked on AGI safety and alignment research," Bilal Chughtai wrote on X. "I earnestly believe that AI has the potential to kill us all, and ​that we might be running out of time to avoid this outcome."

Calls for slowing down AI development

In the wake of these unsettling warnings, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei published an essay which called for slowing down the development of frontier AI models.

His advocacy was also backed by other CEOs including Elon Musk and Sam Altman. Taking to X, Altman shared his concerns, “First, we could lose control of the future to AI. This is unacceptable; we are unapologetically on Team Humanity, and AI must always serve people.”

Speaking about the solution, he further added, “Avoiding these two threats requires walking a narrow middle path; for example, one country could gain too much power. Another example is one lab ending up with too much power.”

In the wake of these concerns, AI-related stocks fell globally on Monday.
