Elon Musk’s X Corp and SpaceXAI have officially resolved their high-stakes antitrust lawsuit against Apple, bringing a sudden close to a fierce legal battle waged in a Texas federal court.
Both Musk's X Corp and SpaceXAI on Monday, have resolved their lawsuit in federal court in Texas that had accused Apple of conspiring to unlawfully monopolize markets for smartphones and generative AI chatbots.
In a court filing, opens new tab, X and SpaceXAI moved to dismiss the lawsuit they brought against Apple last year. The filing did not explain the reasons for dismissal or say if a settlement had been reached.
The lawsuit claimed Apple violated antitrust law by exclusively integrating ChatGPT into Apple Intelligence features on iPhones and other Apple devices. It alleged Apple had illegally shut out rivals in its partnership with OpenAI.
X and SpaceXAI said they will continue to pursue claims against ChatGPT maker OpenAI, which is also a defendant in the lawsuit.
The original complaint accused the Cupertino-based tech giant of engaging in aggressive anticompetitive conduct, alleging that Apple conspired to monopolize and lock up lucrative markets spanning both mobile smartphones and generative artificial intelligence chatbots.
While the sudden resolution brings an end to this specific federal litigation docket, legal representatives for both sides have yet to disclose the formal financial terms, whether any liability was formally admitted, or if the case was dismissed with prejudice.
The sudden settlement marks a major turning point in the ongoing corporate and technological cross-currents between Silicon Valley's biggest players, particularly as competition intensifies across the generative AI landscape.
