Chris Rock's daughter Zahra breaks silence on working with dad in 'Misty Green

Chris Rock recently shed light on some words of wisdom he shared with his daughter Zahra Savannah Rock while working with her in their new movie Misty Green.

For those unaware, Chris has not only written the forthcoming American comedy-drama film; he is also directing and acting in Misty Green. Along with his daughter Zahra, the film has an ensemble cast including Rosalind Eleazar, Daniel Kaluuya, Anna Kendrick, Topher Grace, Daniel Kaluuya, Tracie Thoms, Mo Zelof, and others.

On Saturday, September 12, the 61-year-old American comedian and actor attended the premiere of Misty Green at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival, where he opened up about directing his 22-year-old daughter Zahra.

While conversing with PEOPLE at the event, he articulated his feelings, saying, “It was fun to direct her,” admitting that it took him back to the time when he was growing up with his father Julius Rock in Brooklyn, New York.

“I used to work with my dad a lot. My dad drove a truck...but occasionally I would have to watch somebody tell my dad what to do, and that kind of stuck with me. So it was nice for my daughter to come in this atmosphere where her dad’s the boss,” Chris recalled.

Zahra also chatted with the outlet, confessing that working under the wings of her father was “amazing.”

She added, “When he offered me the role I was just so excited. I was still in college and I was so excited to be able to get out there and show my stuff.”

Reflecting on the lesson the Fargo star shared with her, Zahra said, “I think it’s be true to yourself, and at least in comedy, humor comes from within. All of that kind of stuff.”

Chris and his daughter are also working together on the forthcoming third entry in the Grown Ups series, as she revealed, “We’re having a great time and it’s great going to work with him every day.”

It is pertinent to mention that Misty Green is scheduled to open in United States theatres on October 9, 2026. Watch the trailer here.
