Marvel axed 'Blade' yet star Mahershala Ali still says 'thank you': Here's why

Mahershala Ali spent a little more than a year preparing for the iconic role in a Marvel reboot of Blade.

However, years of delays eventually led the franchise to shelve the Marvel project.

But the actor isn't bitter about the decision. Instead, he is grateful.

Because the training, especially the physical one, he used to have for Blade comes in handy for his latest action thriller, Your Mother, Your Mother, Your Mother.

He told Deadline, Oh, absolutely. For a year, yeah. A little more than a year. I'm actually really grateful."

The star continued, "They helped pay for our movie, so thank you. I shelvego train for a year, so at this point, I'm so grateful that they made a wonderful contribution to our film."

Ali's performance, not all while, has been generally lauded; his new movie is sitting at a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

But will he ever come back to Marvel as Blade?

On this, Ali virtually closed the door, saying, "I'm done. I'm doing this and anything moving forward. I'm over that. I'm done with that."

In the meantime, the logline of the film read, "Latif, a devoutly religious hitman, embarks on a desperate journey across Houston to protect his children after his wife dies, confronting forces closing in and beliefs threatening to unravel."

Your Mother, Your Mother, Your Mother opens in theatres on Sept. 25.
