Sebastian Stan hypes up ‘The Batman Part II’ with unique comparison
Sebastian Stan revealed why he feels ‘highly’ about making ‘The Batman Part II’
Sebastian Stan has compared The Batman Part II to The Godfather sequel.
The 44-year-old actor is reportedly playing Harvey Dent in Matt Reeves’ upcoming movie and he is excited for fans to see the film.
He told Variety, “I go to set sometimes and I look around and I’m like, I think we’re making f****** Godfather Part Two. I feel that highly about it. Matt has spent three years working on it. There’s a lot of speculation about these roles, about what this movie is, but I think it’s going to be a good payoff - it’s really grounded and real, and that’s what I loved about it. You want to tease it a little, but we still have a long time.”
Although he is known for playing Bucky Barnes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Stan is a huge DC Comics fan and always loved the movie Batman Returns.
The actor told the outlet, “I remember exactly where I saw it, over Christmas. I didn’t see the original first. It was Michelle Pfeiffer; Danny DeVito and I was obsessed with that movie. I also, shamefully, really like Batman Forever — I love the Riddler, I love Jim Carrey…”
“[Tommy Lee Jones is] an amazing actor. I don’t quite know. In that movie, Jim Carrey overshadowed him,” Sebastian added.
He continued, “But, growing up in Europe, Batman was the most recognisable thing to me. So, when the MCU came first, it opened a door to comics I didn’t grow up with and I thought, well, that’s it, there’s no way I can get to the other side. No one’s going to hire me; I’ll be Bucky.”
“Two things happened at the same time. I got a call to go meet Matt Reeves, who had seen The Apprentice and loved it and said, ‘I want to talk to you about this new movie.’ And at the same time, I’d reached out to James Gunn and said, ‘Listen, man, I’m just letting you know — I’m here, I’m alive and well, I’m ready to rock.’ And then it happened. I still feel like sometimes I’m like, did I leave the team for the other team? These worlds keep going parallel, and weirdly they help each other,” the 44-year-old revealed.
Sebastian also shared that he has some sympathy for his MCU co-star Tom Holland, who is notoriously bad at keeping plot lines under wraps.
When questioned about whether he is playing Harvey Dent or not and if he now understands Tom Holland’s dilemma, he answered, “I have a lot of respect for Tom Holland. He was always notoriously bad at it, right? Look, there’s no way to keep any secret anymore. What I’ll say is this: there’s no way people will fully grasp how this movie is until they see it.”
The Batman sequel reunites Matt with co-writer Mattson Tomlin and will feature a cast including Robert Pattinson, Scarlett Johansson, Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry and Sebastian Koch, although plot details and their character roles remain under wraps.
