OpenAI is partnering with power companies to fortify the electrical power grid against growing cyber threats driven by autonomous cyberattacks.

The developer’s outreach program comes as the artificial intelligence developer intends to address rising concerns in light of new information that its own AI models were involved in a multi-day cyberattack on the AI platform Hugging Face.

Sam Altman met with leaders from top power producers including Duke Energy Corporation, Exelon Corporation, Southern Company and Nextera Energy Inc.

The discussions centered on risk mitigation talks linked for advanced AI while positioning OpenAI’s billion DayBreak initiative-a cybersecurity preemptive strategy to block frameworks designed to reduce risks before they become materialized as a critical tool for protecting national infrastructure.

Despite cutting-edge cyber defence safeguards, utility holders face structural hurdles in implementing compliance mandated software adoption due to stringent regulatory frameworks.

To fund limitations, OpenAI has been in direct talks with cybersecurity chiefs from companies serving more than a majority of citizens including Dominion Energy Inc and Southern California Edison.

Nonetheless, by framing its Daybreak platform as a cooperative security platform, the startup intends to strengthen infrastructure reliability while gaining a commercial foothold in highly regulated B2B sectors.
