Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh makes royal farm visit in Cumbria

Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh gave “opportunities” to young farmers as she made a special visit in Cumbria.

Sophie spent two days in the county meeting people involved in farming, food production and sustainability as part of her latest royal engagement.

The official Instagram handle of the British royal family posted photos from the visit on Thursday, showing Sophie speaking with people involved in the region’s agricultural sector.

The Duchess of Edinburgh went behind the scenes to learn more about sustainable food production and the work being carried out by local communities during her visit.

The details shared in the caption revealed: "The Duchess of Edinburgh has spent two days in Cumbria learning more about the county’s farming communities, opportunities for young people in agriculture and sustainable food production."

Further revealing, "At homegrownherecumbria The Duchess met growers who are improving access to fresh, locally grown produce. HRH helped pack salad bags which she then delivered to The Butcher’s Arms pub and turned into a fresh salad."

Moreover, "The Duchess officially opened the first farm within the charity’s New Entrant Scheme which supports first-generation farmers and helps secure the future of small-scale hill farms."
