Sandra Bullock opens up on how Hollywood has changed: 'Now we’ve seen behind the curtain'

Sandra Bullock says Hollywood has changed for the better, giving actors more control over their own careers than they had in the past.

The 62-year-old, who recently reprised her role as Sally Owens in Practical Magic 2, reflected on the shift during an interview with Interview magazine.

"No, we need the best of the best. It was scarier back then," she shared with the outlet. "Now we’ve seen behind the curtain and we see it’s all smoke and mirrors."

Bullock explained that earlier in her career, she wasn't able to push for creative control or advocate for the best possible collaborators on a project.

"We get to have more agency over our narrative now and speak the truth, when back then we really couldn’t. There was a machine doing it for you."

Now, she said, actors have more ability to shape their own stories and speak honestly about their experiences, something that wasn't really possible before.

"In an odd way, I like it better now. That’s why Practical Magic 2 needs to be made now, because it gets to tell the story of what we’re allowed to do and talk about now, that no one wanted to talk about before."
