Jim Curtis reveals painful belief he had to break before Jennifer Aniston

Jim Curtis says writing his new book pushed him to work through some of his own long-held beliefs that could come in the way of him finding love.

The hypnotherapist and coach, 50, who began dating Jennifer Aniston last year, has released The Book of Possibility: Release. Align. Become., which touches upon his personal health journey and years of experience in wellness.

While writing and recording the audiobook, Curtis found himself confronting a difficult pattern of his own—one tied to decades of health woes, chronic nerve damage, and partial paralysis.

He realised he had unconsciously been holding onto his physical pain, believing on some level that he deserved it.

“The pattern that was hard enough for me to recognize was there was a pattern around staying sick,” Curtis recently told People. “I was keeping myself in a physical disability. I was keeping myself in pain because I thought, in some way, that I deserved it.”

He traced that belief back to deeper feelings of unworthiness, which he began to unpack through a meditation retreat and later coaching work.

Curtis said he spent years feeling angry about his declining health before eventually reaching a place of acceptance, learning to appreciate his body for what it could still do rather than focusing on its limitations.

“This beautiful body is keeping you alive,” he recalled realising. “Although it’s a little bit broken, it’s trying so hard for you.”

That shift, he said, opened him up to deeper connection in his personal life, including his relationship with Aniston.

“When I got to the point of loving my body and loving myself, I found this amazing relationship. A sense of self-love and acceptance is mirrored in your relationships,” he said. Though he wasn’t envisioning Aniston specifically, “I just had this idea that at 50 years old, I would have a more substantial relationship, a serious relationship that would warm my heart.”

Now, Curtis says he feels able to give and receive love more fully. He described starting most days with a simple routine of intention-setting, often including meditation with Aniston.

“I wake up and I feed the dogs. I have coffee. Jen will pick the meditation and we’ll do it,” he revealed. “It changes your whole day.”
