Trump urged to pardon Lindsay Clancy after calling her crime 'horrible'
Trump previously shared his views on Lindsay Clancy's case
Lindsay Clancy's trial hearing is set for September 29, as the case has already been declared a mistrial.
But ahead of the court proceedings, the accused's lawyer made a direct appeal to President Donald Trump.
Appearing on Good Morning America, attorney Kevin Reddington said, "Mr President, I would hope you would consider this young lady, the type of person she is, what she has been through, and consider a pardon."
However, Trump previously said on the record that Clancy deserved punishment for what she did.
“Look, she did a horrible, horrible thing,” he earlier said.
“But you’ll find out what the price to pay is," the president continued.
"There’ll be a price. It’s going to be a mental institution or jail or something, but I guess they’re going to go through another trial. It’s too bad.”
But apart from that, at the heart, what possible outcomes are there in Clancy's case?
The first can be simple. Reddington asks the judge for a not-guilty ruling. This, however, can be far-fetched.
Prosecutors could retry Clancy with a new jury.
A deal between the prosecutors and the defense team is also possible.
Last but not least, prosecutors are not pushing for a second trial; however, that is highly unlikely.
