Charles III automatically became the king following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in September 2022
Royal Collection Trust on Tuesday made a factual error in a social media post marking King Charles accession.
An Instagram post shared by the charity incorrected stating King Charles acceded to the throne in 2023, when he became king following the death of Queen Elizabeth II on Sept. 8, 2022.
The post, shared alongside a portrait commissioned for Charles' 2023 coronation, said: “On this day in 2023, King Charles III acceded to the throne.”
Charles' coronation took place on May 6, 2023, months after his accession. He became the king following the death of his mother in September 2022.
The Instagram post was later corrected after hundreds of users mocked the charity over the factual error.
