King Charles' reign hits 4 years as coronation portrait unveiled at Buckingham Palace
Charles III became the king after the death of his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II
Buckingham Palace on Tuesday marked four years since King Charles acceded to the British throne by inviting people to visit the historical royal residence.
Sharing a picture of the monarch's portrait, an Instagram post read, "On this day in 2023, King Charles III acceded to the throne."
It added, "Painted to mark the Coronation of King Charles III on 6 May 2023, this portrait continues a long tradition of Coronation state portraits that spans centuries. It was commissioned by The King and painted by Peter Kuhfeld over the course of a year."
According to the Royal Collection Trust, "The portrait now hangs in the Throne Room at Buckingham Palace. The Palace is open for self-guided tours until 27 September 2026."
Charles III became the king following the death of his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2022.
